Curry College Network Usage Policy
1. Purpose and Scope:
This policy outlines the guidelines and expectations for appropriate usage of the Curry College network and its resources. All members of the Curry College community, including students, faculty, staff, and any authorized guests, are required to adhere to this policy. Proper network usage ensures the security, integrity, and reliability of Curry College's digital environment.
2. Acceptable Use:
2.1. The Curry College network may be used for academic, administrative, and research-related purposes, in alignment with the college's mission and goals.
2.2. Users are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful, ethical, and legal manner while using the network.
2.3. Access to the network and its resources is a privilege that comes with responsibilities. Users must exercise caution and avoid any actions that could disrupt the network's functionality or compromise its security.
3. Responsible Usage:
3.1. Users must respect all applicable laws, including copyright and intellectual property rights, when using the network to access, create, or share information.
3.2. Users should not engage in any form of unauthorized access, hacking, or attempts to breach the security of the network or connected systems.
3.3. Distribution of malicious software, viruses, or any other harmful content is strictly prohibited.
3.4. Users should maintain the privacy and confidentiality of their own and others' data while using the network.
4. Network Security:
4.1. Users are responsible for keeping their account credentials secure and should not share passwords or access codes with others.
4.2. Unauthorized monitoring or interception of network traffic is prohibited.
4.3. Users should promptly report any suspicious activities, security breaches, or vulnerabilities to Curry College ITS.
5. Bandwidth Management:
5.1. Users are encouraged to use network resources responsibly, avoiding excessive or unnecessary bandwidth consumption that may affect the performance for others.
5.2. Activities that involve heavy bandwidth consumption, such as large file downloads or streaming, should be conducted in a way that minimizes the impact on the overall network performance.
6. Prohibited Activities:
6.1. Engaging in any form of harassment, bullying, or offensive behavior through the college network is strictly prohibited.
6.2. Use of the network for commercial or for-profit activities unrelated to Curry College is not allowed without proper authorization.
6.3. Running servers or services that consume significant network resources without prior approval is prohibited.
6.4. Peer-to-peer file sharing of copyrighted material without proper authorization is not allowed.
7. Consequences of Violations:
7.1. Violations of this policy may result in warnings, temporary suspension of network privileges, or further sanctions as deemed appropriate by the college administration.
7.2. Serious violations, such as hacking attempts or distribution of harmful content, may lead to legal actions in addition to college disciplinary measures.
8. Policy Compliance:
8.1. All members of the Curry College community are expected to review and understand this policy.
8.2. By using the Curry College network, users acknowledge their agreement to comply with this policy.
8.3. The college reserves the right to amend this policy as necessary, with updates communicated to the community.
9. No Warranties or Assurances:
9.1. Curry College makes no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, with respect to the Network Resources it provides.
9.2. Curry College is not responsible for any damage resulting from use of Network Resources, including service interruptions, loss of data or damage to hardware or software on your personal systems at home, in the residence halls or public access computer labs on campus.
9.3. Computer and network availability is subject to periodic system updates, security patches, ISP maintenance, system protocol improvements and changes.
